Escondida Lake

Description

Escondida Lake is a small, county-owned public recreation area located conveniently at the entry to the Quebradas Loop (as well as several other trails). It has a permanent group shelter, several picnic tables, shade trees, and a small lake for those inclined toward fishing.

Unable to ignore its central location, we often have made this "ground zero" for both the races and the Saturday morning rides during the Socorro Fat Tire Fiesta.

Directions

From I-25:

1. Take exit 152, marked Escondida. The exit ramps dump you out onto NM 408.
2. Turn East on NM 408. After about a 1/4 mile the road will make a sharp turn to the North. Follow the best pavement.
3. Continue North for 1.4 miles to the intersection with Pueblito Road. You will see a sign for Escondida Lake, and see the lake itself to the Northeast. Turn right onto Pueblito Road.
4. After 1/4 mile you will intersect a major irrigation ditch, with dirt roads on both sides. Turn North onto the first ditch road. The entrance to the Park will be on your left.
