F1 Triathlon
On Saturday, August 30th, Roswell's Bottomless Lakes
State Park played host to the third F1 Triathlon, a unique event
consisting of a 800m swim/14K bike/4K run/14K bike/4K run. The
swim leg is in beautiful Lea Lake, and as such, is one of the few
open-water swim triathlons in New Mexico. The bike leg(s) are also
draft-legal, giving triathletes a chance to practice their
pack-riding skills. Robert Abernathy was the only SSR member to
travel to Roswell, and he finished in 2:07:33, good for
4th in his age group.

Duke City And Rio Grande Marathon Date Conflict
It was recently brought to our attention that the Duke
City Marathon (Albuquerque) and the Rio Grande Marathon
(Las Cruces) have landed on the same date, October
26th. You choose. Both events offer a marathon,
marathon relay, half-marathon, and 5K run and walk. Duke
City also offers a marathon walk and a kids-K. Both are
Boston qualifiers. Duke City has a website, while Rio
Grande has an entry form,
and will have a website by
October.

Fall Running Series Announced
A series of 5K races is planned for the Fall, to be held on Sunday
mornings starting on September 7th, and every third
Sunday thereafter. This'll be a low-key event, with prizes going
to the overall winners in each of four age groups in both
genders. The series fee is $5 and that'll buy entry into all four
races and a series T-shirt. All races meet in front of the EMRTC
building (at the rattlesnake sculpture). The actual courses will
be determined later. Download a flyer here.
