8/12/2002 - Socorro Chile Harvest Triathlon Results
Congratulations everyone on a great race!

8/7/2002 - Nearing 200 entries in the triathlon!
We are nearing 200 entries in the triathlon, and so we will probably run out of the embroidered running caps. Get your entry in early; you will get a small discount if you don't get a cap, but if you wait until race day, you will be starting after the 200 preregistered people start, and nobody wants that.

7/25/2002 - Before I forget again, here's a link to the Fat Tire Fiesta.

6/17/2002 - USAT Sanctioning for Chile Harvest Triathlon
AIG, the insurer of last year's triathlon, is longer providing event liability insurance. Our second choice for event liability insurance is through USA Triathlon, and therefore, we have obtained USAT sanctioning for the Socorro Chile Harvest Triathlon. The entry fee has changed to reflect the one-day USAT membership fee of $7 for non-USAT members.

5/24/2002 - Socorro Chile Harvest Triathlon
Registration for the Socorro Chile Harvest Triathlon (formerly the Socorro Sprint Triathlon) has begun. The event name change reflects the new event order: swim 400m/bike 20K/run 5K. The swim start will be seeded according to an estimated 400 meter swim time you will provide when you register, with the fastest swimmers going first. Race-day entries will be seeded in a later wave.

We're also proud to announce the introduction of ChampionChip timing for the Chile Harvest Triathlon. We've found enough sponsorship to offset the increased costs due to the electronic timing, and so we've been able to keep the registration fee the same as last year, $30. The fee goes up to $35 on August 4th, and then to $40 for race-day registration.

We're also able to bring back the popular marathon caps from the 2000 race, and we'll be presenting a better quality award for the top finishers in each category.

Visit http://www.sdc.org/ssr/chile for complete race information, online registration through active.com, and downloadable registration forms.

3/6/2002 - SSR to combine with Trex for Relay for Life
Our Relay For Life squad will combine with Fred Yarger's former team, Trex Enterprises. Trex will have trouble finding enough people this year, and Camille Scelzi, their leader, and her husband, Mark Bottjer, have been extremely helpful at SSR events in the past. Fred is signing people up for the relay; as last year, it costs a $10 donation to sign up for the relay itself. Fred is also taking any donations you might like to make.

3/6/2002 - SSR adopts Sedillo Hill
SSR will adopt a section of US highway 60 between mileposts 129 and 131 (Sedillo Hill). The signs should be up in a couple of weeks. We will be organizing the first clean-up soon.

SSR will be organizing a club run from the San Marcial turnoff on NM Hwy 1 to the Bosque del Apache visitor center on Sunday, February 10th, at 3:00 PM. This will be much like the Crusin' With The Cranes 15K, except it's not a race. In fact, this is still in the formative stages, so if you have ideas, please let me know. I already know that we'll be looking for vehicles to carry runners to the start, so please volunteer to lend a hand with transportation if you can.

1/10/2002 - Relay for Life plans
As we did in 2001, SSR will be participating in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life this year. This is a fundraising event for the ACS which involves the whole community. 1/10/2002 - Ad postings
I (Matt Perini) occasionally receive offers via e-mail that are designed for clubs and members. I think SSR club members should be able to see these advertisements and decide for themselves. So, from now on, I will post advertisements at the web site under Items For Sale, but I won't claim any responsibility for the validity of the offers.

11/9/2001 - Southwest Challenge Series Results
Congratulations to Christian Krueger for winning the elite division in the Southwest Challenge Series. To do this, he had to have the best placings at 8 or more SWCS events against some of the Southwest's best triathletes. The only other SSR member to place was E.P. Higgs, who won third place in the Clydesdale division, against 6 qualifiers. View the complete results at the Southwest Triathlon Club web site.
