Main Benefit of Being a Member
Tennis club officers are elected in October of every year. The President works closely with Socorro City Mangement regarding court repairs, improvements in and around the courts, helping resolve tennis issues, etc. It is because of liasion between the club, community donators, and the city that we have nice courts to play on, trees surrounding the courts, benches with shade, periodic crack repairs made on the courts, etc. I know some would prefer the courts never be locked, but unfortunately unlocked courts invite destructive vandalism. The courts are there for all to enjoy for tennis or pickle ball.
Ball Machine
The Socorro Tennis Association does own an older ball machine. We have talked about replacing it with a newer model, but will have to see where this year takes us, and the costs of a nice replacement. New ones can be pretty pricey. In any event, new or old, you do need to be a member to check it out for practice. Contact the STA President about more information regarding the machine.
Tournaments
Entry fee to play in a tournament is a new can of low altitude tennis balls or $3 for members or non-members with no tennis balls. We waived the extra $3 for non-members playing in a tournatment to encourage more participants to join us. We wanted tennis enthusiasm to be a factor, not money.
