Old West towns were often built around a central plaza. The plaza would provide a place where the community as a whole could get together. Socorro has a wonderful example of this time-honored tradition, dating back to the earliest days of settlement.
Time has moved on, and the plaza is still the hub of Socorro. In or immediately surrounding the plaza are some of the oldest buildings still standing in Socorro. In the middle of the plaza stands a large gazebo, surrounded by towering Cottonwood trees and benches.
Every Saturday morning during Summer a Farmer's Market takes place at the plaza, providing a wealth of local produce and baked goods.
