To create a new dial-up connection in Apple Mac OS X:

1. Open the menu, then open the System Preferences menu item.
   
2. Click on the Network icon.
   
3. Open the Location pull-down menu and choose "New Location." In the window that opens, enter "SDC Internet" as the location name, and click on the OK button.
   
4. Open the Show pull-down menu and choose "Internal Modem" to use the modem built-in to your Macintosh.
   
5. Click on the TCP/IP tab.
   
6. Open the Configure pull-down menu and choose "Using PPP."
   
7. Set the IP Address to "Provided by PPP server" and make sure that the Domain Name Servers box and the Search Domains box are both empty.
   
8. Click on the PPP tab.
   
9. Enter "SDC Internet" in the "Service Provider:" box.
   
10. Enter "838-4125" in the "Telephone Number:" box.
    
    
    • If you need to dial any special numbers to get a regular dial tone, put those numbers before the access number. If you need your modem to wait a moment before dialing, place a comma [,] where you need the pause to be. For example, if you need to dial 9 and wait for a dialtone to get an outside line, you should enter "9,838-4125" as the access number.
      
11. Enter "838-1001" in the "Alternate Number:" box.
    
12. Enter your username in the "Account Name:" box.
    
13. Enter your password in the "Password:" box. The box will display dots as you type.
    
14. Place a checkmark in the "Save password" box. (You can choose not to, but you will have to enter your password every time you connect if you don't.)
    
15. Click on the Modem tab.
    
16. Select your modem type, if it isn't already selected.
    
17. If you want the modem's status to appear in the menu bar, place a checkmark in the "Show modem status in the menu bar" box. If not, remove the checkmark from this box.
    
18. Click on the Apply Now button.
    
19. Click on the red go-away jewel () to close the window.
    

Use the Internet Connect application to connect and disconnect from the Internet using your dial-up modem. It is located at /Applications/Internet Connect in the Finder by default.
